Logitech today unveiled a pair of iPod-oriented speaker sets it plans to punt at consumers this coming Christmas. Both sets will be offered under the AudioStation brand and support a wide array of dockable Apple music players.The AudioStation Express is a portable product - it runs on AA batteries or off the mains - and there’s a 3.5mm-jack socket so iPod-less users can still hook up alternative music players or other audio sources. The Express sports a pair of 6.cm front-mounted speakers and a side-mounted bass port. The unit’s kitted out in white with black audio ports and grilles, all the better to match both black iPods and white ones.The standard AudioStation is all black and equipped with backlit, touch-sensitive controls for full control of the set’s tone and its 3d sound mode. On the audio front, it includes a pair of 2.5cm tweeters and two 10cm woofers. the whole unit’s 40.6 x 18.4 x 10.6cm and includes an AM/FM tuner with RDS station identity technology.Both AudioStations are set to go on sale in October and ship with remote controls. The Express will retail for around _80, while it sibling will cost _200. R

While Asus is pondering whether to produce a Lamborghini-branded phone, Nokia beaten it to the finish line with a Aston Martin version of its Nokia 8800 handset. Like the cars, it’s not cheap - Aston Martin wants a whopping _940 ($1,640/’1,353) for the device.Mind you, it looks good. The “strictly limited edition” handset sports the AM logo laser etched onto its stainless steel sliding case. There’s a special ringtone composed by Japanese muso Ryuichi ‘Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence’ Sakamoto and another that’s essentially a recording of the Vantage’s V8 engine revving up. AM has also bundled some suitably branded screensavers and wallpaper graphics.The phone is a tri-band GSM/GPRS device with EDGE support. It has a 208 x 208, 262,144-colour display and a megapixel camera. The on-board music player supports MP3 and AAC songs, and the phone is based on Nokia’s Series 40 UI.The Nokia 8800 weighs 134g and measures 10.7 x 4.5 x 1.7cm. It’s got a 600mAh battery, sufficient for up to three hours’ talk time and eight days on stand-by.The AM-branded 8800 is available now from the car maker for _800 excluding VAT - _940 inclusive. R
Nokia yesterday launched a trio of handsets, including its latest bid to win business from Apple’s iPod and other music players with its a colourful music-friendly handset. It also took aim at the mid-range 3G arena with a clamshell-format 3G smart phone.The Nokia 6290 runs Nokia’s S60 user interface on top of the Symbian operating system to deliver the usual array of features you’d expect from a Nokia smart phone: personal information management, web browsing, email with PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint attachment viewing, and so on.
